The Warrnambool Gold recruit took up the sport eight years ago in Mount Gambier, quickly rising through the ranks.
Vorwerk said she “took to it like a duck to water”.
“I’ve never been a sports person,” she said.
“It surprised me that I was any good at it.”
Vorwerk made her Western District Bowls Division (WDBD) debut a week ago, playing third to highly-rated skipper Kellie Bowles.
They helped reigning premier Warrnambool Gold start its flag defence with a hard-fought win against City Memorial Green.
It plays top-grade newcomer Lawn Tennis Green, fresh from a humbling season-opening defeat, today.
Vorwerk, who moved to Warrnambool five months ago, admitted to nerves in her first game for her new club.
But she felt she settled and contributed.
“I know Kellie, the skipper. I have played against her a couple of times,” Vorwerk said.
“We are a couple of the younger ones — she is 40 and I am 53 and they sort of go up from there.”
Vorwerk, who has entered the Victorian Open singles in Shepparton next month, played for Mount Gambier RSL before moving to the south-west.
She spent 10 years in Mount Gambier and wanted to be closer to her four adult children who live in Melbourne, without living in the city.
Warrnambool was a bowls club which appealed to her.
“I have played here before in a few tournaments and really liked the club,” Vorwerk said.
“It’s always welcoming and friendly.”
In other round two games today, City Memorial Green hosts round one winner Port Fairy Gold, Warrnambool Blue will attempt to build on its surprise season-opening triumph against Timboon Gold, and Terang plays a City Memorial Gold side hoping to rebound after a shock loss.
