“Small business makes a huge contribution to our local economy and community and it is important we support them on the second annual Support Small Business Day on Saturday, October 4,” Dr Napthine said.
“Spend this weekend getting out and about with your family and friends exploring your local businesses, discovering the great products, trades and services on offer.
“Every time we purchase from a small retail business it helps drive our local economy, helping create jobs and to build a stronger community.”
As part of the statewide event, shoppers have a chance to win gift cards valued up to $100 that can be spent at participating businesses.
Shoppers who buy from a participating local business and post a photo on social media of themselves with the purchase will also be in the running to win one of three $100 gift vouchers.
Commerce Warrnambool, the city’s peak business lobby group, is encouraging shoppers to support the day.
Its president Tony Herbert said that in an increasingly global community, taking the time to “consider where you spend your money is more relevant than ever”.
“Local business is essential to our daily lives, it provides employment, social and cultural experiences and of course the essential goods and services we all require.
“Let’s all get behind this fantastic initiative to ensure its success, after all it is about supporting ourselves,” he said.
