Wind gusts up to 91km/h have been recorded at the Warrnambool Airport, sparking reports of trees down near Caramut and Gellibrand in the Otways.
Power was also cut at Warrnambool's Wannon Park greyhound track, cancelling last night's scheduled race meeting.
From 9am to 8pm Port Fairy received 11mm of rain, while Warrnambool had 7mm, including 4mm in an hour from noon.
The downpour in Port Fairy gave the town its highest rainfall total since August 12.
The mercury reached 17 degrees in Warrnambool before dropping to 10 with the cold front by 1pm.
Little relief can be expected before Saturday, with a top of only 15 degrees forecast today and tomorrow.
