Aaron Joseph Ellis, 26, of Hurd Street, pleaded guilty in the Warrnambool Magistrates Court to a range of crimes.
He was jailed for 14 months with eight months to serve before being eligible for parole.
Police said a search of Ellis’ home on September 30 last year uncovered 111 grams of cannabis, a slingshot and a suspected stolen iPod.
Portland police last year investigated a number of smash-and-grab burglaries committed on businesses in the central city area.
One of those offences was at Portland Disposals on November 8, when knives and other goods valued at $10,242 were stolen and $3785 damage caused to the premises. Crime scene officers found DNA traces at the store.
On November 15 police executed a search warrant at Ellis’ Hurd Street home and found a number of knives which were identified as being stolen from Portland Disposals.
On January 2 Ellis and a co-accused stole a compact bow valued at $400.
Police alleged that on January 9 this year Ellis and his partner argued over a spilt drink. He lunged at her and abused three children.
The woman drove off but returned later to find Ellis trashing their home.
On March 3 Ellis was also involved in a pursuit with police when he was riding a mini motorbike in residential Portland.
