Rosalee Pevitt, 66, of Wellington Road, pleaded guilty in the Warrnambool Magistrates Court last week to drink-driving, failing to stop after an accident and failing to exchange her name and address after an accident.
Police told the court that at 9pm on June 11 Pevitt drove to the Portland RSL to submit her husband’s football tips.
After leaving the RSL she drove to the intersection of Must Street and Cape Nelson Road.
She failed to stop at a red light and collided with the rear of another car, causing minor damage.
Pevitt then drove home but the driver of the damaged car followed her. Police were called and Pevitt later recorded a blood-alcohol reading of .146.
She told police officers she didn’t realise she had hit anyone.
Pevitt had a prior drink-driving offence in 2009. She said that on June 11 she and her husband were preparing to go on holidays and it was a particularly stressful day.
Magistrate Peter Mellas said that with a reading almost three times the legal limit Pevitt must have realised she was well over.
“At that level a lot of people would be giggling messes and wouldn’t just jump into the car to go and put on footy tips,” he said.
Pevitt said she was totally embarrassed and ashamed by the incident but grateful no one else was hurt.
She was convicted, fined $650 with $113.90 costs and her driver’s licence was disqualified for 28 months.
