Sports editor Greg Best was recognised with the Jumping Media Story of the Year at the Australian Jumps Racing Association’s Mosstroopper awards night at the RACV Club, in Melbourne, on Saturday night.
Best won the award for a feature story that outlined the incredible career of locally owned and trained jumper Cats Fun, that was retired in August.
Sports reporter Justine McCullagh-Beasy won two awards at the annual Big V Basketball presentation night for her reporting on the Warrnambool Seahawks’ 2014 season. She won best news article for her story on US import Sai’Quon Stone finally being cleared to play after immigration issues had kept him sidelined for the first rounds of the season.
Her second award, for best feature article, was for a story with Seahawks’ veteran Simon O’Keefe in the lead-up to the finals campaign.
McCullagh-Beasy thanked Warrnambool Basketball Incorporated chairman Shane Dean and Seahawks’ coach Bobby Cunningham for their support across the season.
“I’ve really enjoyed following the Seahawks this season and watching them rise up the ladder,” she said.
“I can’t thank Shane and Bobby enough for their support and assistance across the season, and I thank the Big V for the recognition.”
