Warrnambool man Brendan Curran and his 94-year-old grandmother Beryl Scullion will trade advice in the football off-season after each winning their tipping competitions.
Mrs Scullion, a resident at Gillin Park Retirement Village, took out the living facility’s annual AFL competition, while Lion forklift driver Brendan Curran won The Standard’s TopTippa contest for picking Warrnambool and District league winners, after entering under the name of his wife Jacinta.
Mrs Curran said her husband had won four tipping competitions in the past four years.
Even at 94, Mrs Scullion still keeps up with the weekly footy results.
Mr Curran, who played 300 games for Dennington and now umpires junior football, said he was unaware his grandmother was still clued in on footy tipping.
“I should’ve swapped a few tips with her,” he said.
“I support Dennington in the district league and Geelong in the AFL, which helps when they win. It’s the first time (WDFNL tipping) has ever been done so it was a bit of a bonus one.”
