PORTLAND police were involved in a pursuit with a stolen four-wheel-drive early Friday morning that reached speeds of almost 150km/h north of the city.

Sergeant Mark Merryfull said a Portland division van crew was taking a report in north Portland about a stolen Mitsubishi four-wheel-drive when the vehicle was spotted parked at 4.07am.
A 10 kilometre chase was initiated from north Portland along the Henty Highway to Bolwarra, reaching speeds of between 130 and 140 km/h.
"The pursuit was terminated by the controller due to the excessive speeds involved," Sergeant Merryfull said.
"The stolen four-wheel-drive was later located undamaged. It is believed the vehicle had one occupant during the pursuit."
Anyone with information about the stolen vehicle or the pursuit is requested to contact the Portland police station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
Portland police will also charge a 16-year-old male youth with stealing alcohol from the Aldi supermarket and items from a noodle store.
The youth will be summoned to appear in court at a later date on the theft and possessing a dangerous article charges.
