But as the much-loved music store prepares to close its doors, some of those fans are banding together to put on a fitting tribute to the business. A night of old-school DJing is being held on Saturday night in honour of Capricorn Records.
It’s the brainchild of The Spinners, a close-knit group of Warrnambool vinyl enthusiasts who gather monthly to play records.
Among their members are Roy Reekie and Paul Sheedy, who are expecting up to 100 people to attend the night of music and fun at the Ozone Room on Saturday night.
“(Capricorn Records owner) Michael Fitzgerald is a member of a small group that gets together and plays vinyl at each other,” Reekie said.
“When we heard the news that Capricorn was intending to close ... we decided we wanted to honour the contribution Michael and his staff made to the music-loving public in Warrnambool and the south-west.
“We wanted to make it a public event because ... the public deserved an opportunity to express their gratitude.”
The event is capped at 100 tickets, which are selling fast and are available through Long Gone Antiques & Collectables in Fairy Street, Warrnambool.
Members of The Spinners will be DJing on the night.
Reekie said he planned to play a track off the very first piece of vinyl he bought from Capricorn and encouraged partygoers to do likewise.
