Unveiled as a little taster ahead of the first big announcement of acts on September 26, the initial three names on the bill are Danish-based melting pot Himmerland, returning Aussie singer-songwriter Ami Williamson and much-loved festival regulars The Chipolatas.
A further 16 acts will be named on September 26 and the list will swell to about 100 names by the time the festival rolls around on March 6-9 next year.
Himmerland is an ideal first announcement, exemplifying the cross-cultural pollination the Folkie has become renowned for — the five-piece band features members from Denmark, Poland and Ghana and combines jazz, folk and world influences.
Ami Williamson will continue her love affair with Port Fairy, having played at the Folkie in 2012 and a Port Fairy Winter Weekend concert in 2013.
The daughter of country legend John Williamson, she has gained plenty of buzz for cabaret-infused brand of indie folk.
UK group The Chipolatas have been regulars at Aussie festivals over the years thanks to their combination of circus, theatre and live music.
The first of five ticket releases runs from September 22 to September 24, with subscribers getting the first opportunity to snap up tickets. This will be followed by a general “first release” on September 29 for the general public through Trybooking.com or the Folkie website.
A second and third release of tickets will occur on October 27 and January 12 respectively, followed by a “gate price” release of any remaining tickets on March 2.
