A UK-produced university rating list has placed Deakin at 360th position globally in a survey that included ancient institutions such as Oxford, Cambridge and Harvard.
The list, compiled by British company Quacqua-relli Symonds (QS), praises Deakin’s Warrnambool campus in particular, noting the site offers “modern, state-of-the-art facilities, innovative programs and a relaxed regional lifestyle close to the Great Ocean Road”.
“Delivering ideal preparation for the global job market, Deakin University is an innovative research and teaching institution with strong industry links and an international outlook,” the QS assessors claim.
Deakin was noted as Victoria’s fourth ranked university on the international list, behind Melbourne, Monash and RMIT but in front of La Trobe, Victoria, Swinburne and Federation universities.
The Australian National University was the top-ranked university in the country, coming in at 25th in the world, while the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the United States gained top spot.
Specific praise was afforded to Deakin’s success in graduates achieving employment soon after graduation.
“Deakin’s commercial focus is reflected in its engagement with industry and in the extensive industry experience and relationships of its faculties and staff,” the guide states.
“Many courses include internship opportunities so that students can gain real world experience to increase their work-readiness upon graduation.”
