But not before helping Koroit redeem itself on Hampden league netball’s biggest stage — the A grade grand final.
Greene, 23, will line up for the Saints at goal defence against Hamilton Kangaroos on Saturday at Reid Oval.
It will be her last netball game for a while — the two-time Warrnambool Mermaids captain is ending a two-year break from basketball.
The Melbourne-based Greene has signed with Big V division one side Camberwell Dragons for the 2015 season.
Greene led the Mermaids to back-to-back championships in 2011 and 2012, the same year she celebrated Hampden league premiership success with Koroit.
Work commitments forced her to take a break from both sports last year before she rejoined the Saints this season.
Greene said she was eager to help Koroit make amends for its 2013 grand final loss to North Warrnambool Eagles.
“We are all pumped up, especially with Emily (Batt) winning the league best and fairest on Sunday and Teagan (Lang) coming second and because of the disappointment of last year. We don’t want to feel that again,” she said.
“I am excited to get out there and play with this bunch of girls and hopefully bring it home.
“I missed netball last year when I was in Melbourne.
“I went and watched the grand final last year and when they lost I just wanted to get out there.
“I love the group of girls there and thought some of them might be nearing the end (of their careers).
“I hadn’t played with Kate Foster and Kate Dobson because they’d always been injured or pregnant when I played so I wanted to play with them.”
Greene, who took a back injury scare into the second semi-final win against the Kangaroos, said she had the same lure to return to basketball.
The point guard watched the Geelong Supercats play throughout their season, fuelling her desire to get back on the court. Camberwell was the perfect fit for the St Vincent’s Private Hospital nurse.
“Because of shift work I can’t make all trainings so that was a huge thing for me but the coach (Justin Nelson) understands that,” she said.
“It will be a new experience because I’ve played against some of the girls but don’t know them.
“It’s a fairly new team with new recruits.”
Greene will start pre-season with the Dragons in October.
