A WARRNAMBOOL ice user being held in remand on serious charges was yesterday fined $650 after failing to pay for petrol after he filled up an unregistered car.

Bradley Godwin, 27, of Curtain Street, pleaded guilty in the Warrnambool Magistrates Court yesterday to theft and driving an unregistered vehicle. He was convicted and fined $650 with $113.90 costs.
Defence counsel Xavier Farrelly said Godwin was on remand on a charge of aggravated burglary to which he planned to plead guilty in the Warrnambool County Court and for which he was likely to receive a significant jail sentence.
He said Godwin, a drug user, had intended to pay for the petrol but had been arrested and held in custody.
Mr Farrelly said Godwin had borrowed the car and was not aware it was unregistered.
Police alleged that at 2am on August 21, Godwin drove to the service station in a white 1996 Holden Commodore station wagon which did not have registration plates.
A station attendant had to help Godwin push the car closer to a bowser after he couldn’t restart it. Godwin put $45 in fuel into the vehicle and then told the attendant he didn’t have his wallet.
When the attendant asked him to stay at the station while she called police, Godwin left. He was also unlicensed.
