Luke Jobson pleaded guilty in Warrnambool Magistrates Court yesterday to two counts of theft. He is already in jail after allegedly breaching parole and on other charges allegedly committed in Shepparton.
Jobson was twice captured on security camera footage during July opening cash registers and stealing cash in Warrnambool.
The court heard that at 2pm on July 7 he went to Horseland on Lava Street, left and then returned at 2.38pm, when he used a key to open the cash register and remove nine $50 notes.
At 4.53pm on July 24 Jobson went to the Whalers Hotel pokies venue, lent over a counter, opened a cash register and removed $4050 while the area had been left unattended.
On August 8 Jobson was arrested and interviewed by police but denied any part in the offending, despite the security camera footage.
Defence counsel Belinda Northey said her client was on parole at the time and the offending had breached his parole.
He owes about six months on parole and will have to serve that term.
Ms Northey said there may also be outstanding suspended sentences in the county court which could be called in for resentencing.
She said Jobson was also being held on remand for matters allegedly committed in Shepparton and he is expected in court next week on those charges.
The solicitor said Jobson grew up in New South Wales, left school halfway through year 8 and started using serious drugs when he was 13 years old.
His recent offending was committed to support his drug habit, she said. Jobson’s partner is pregnant with twins.
Magistrate Peter Mellas said Jobson’s crimes were opportunistic but the defendant had a long history of dishonesty.
He said it seemed Jobson had a number of matters to deal with but the three-month jail sentence imposed yesterday would have to be served in addition to any other sentence.
