It’s nothing sinister though — it’s part of Wannon Water’s inspection program, which will use state-of-the-art robotic technology and video cameras to examine more than 24 kilometres of pipes under the city.
Wannon Water’s acting managing director Andrew Jeffers said the new technology made it much easier to determine the state of the sewer network.
“This robotic CCTV technology allows us to look closely inside the pipes to see if there are any maintenance or structural issues without having to dig deep trenches to access the pipes,” Mr Jeffers said.
The works are expected to be completed this summer.
