The Warrnambool man picked his footy tips at the start of the year, then kicked back without changing them one bit.

Yesterday, he became the second winner of The Standard’s Top Tippa competition, this time for the Hampden Football Netball League.

The prizewinner was glad he didn’t interfere.

“I tipped the whole lot at the start of the year. I didn’t do them each week, I just left it,” Mr Lovell said.

He admitted having no crystal ball before entering the competition, organised by The Standard and sponsored by the Clinton Baulch Motor Group.

“It was probably more lottery than good picking,” he said.

The pot luck lets Mr Lovell take home a $500 voucher from Harvey World Travel and a $500 voucher from Pitstop Menswear.

Mr Lovell, who works as a co-ordinator for the Bunnings store, is a close follower of the District and Hampden leagues.

“I follow both,” he said.

“My kids play in the district league for Merrivale so I sort of follow Merrivale each week ...  I keep an eye on it, I know a fair few players there.”

As for travel there’s no plans yet, except for one thing.

“We’ll leave the kids behind,” he said.
