The friends and family of Ken Hedger have organised a number of fund-raisers to help pay for his chemotherapy and stem cell treatment as he fights stage four mantle cell lymphoma.

Among them is a gig at St Brigid’s Hall in Crossley on September 6 which will run from noon until midnight.

One of the organisers of the event, Sarah McCall, said money raised by the concert would not only help pay for Mr Hedger’s treatment but also “his family’s day-to-day needs”.

“He can’t work because the chemotherapy makes him unwell,” Ms McCall explained.

“He’s in hospital for five days at a time (for his treatment). There have been positive results so far but it’s too early to tell.”

She said there had been no problem finding bands to donate their talents for the concert.

“Things like this bring people together,” Ms McCall said.

“You might not see someone for 10 years but in times of need all your friends come together.”

The event will feature Silverkane, Gramps, Hog Stompin’ Zydegators, Lee ‘Sonnyboy’ Morgan & Band, Kayla Dwyer, Ginjan, Brayden & Elise, Gary McKenzie & Band, The Mellows and Julie’s Folk Band.

A bus has been organised to help people get back to Port Fairy and Warrnambool.

Mr Hedger now lives in Geelong with his partner Martine and their children, where his friends have also organised a raffle and a cruise to help support his fight.
