All eight Roosters’ netball teams — nine if you count their under 12s which played on junior grand final day — have made Hampden league finals.

Their 16 and under and 14 and under teams have already walked away with premierships.

This weekend South Warrnambool’s A grade, A1, A2, 17 and under, 15 and under and 13 and under sides start their finals campaigns.

Two have earned the double chance — 17 and 15 and unders — and will play in qualifying finals at Friendly Societies’ Park on Saturday.

The other four will travel to Cobden for elimination finals on Sunday.

South Warrnambool netball co-ordinator Trish Pattison said having all teams represented in finals was a rare feat.

Pattison said she could recall the Roosters and North Warrnambool Eagles having all six Saturday teams in finals before.

“I can’t guarantee it’s unprecedented but it’d be pretty close,” she said of all eight teams making the top five.

“I have been involved since the under 13s started here, which is probably about seven or eight years ago. We have had six on Saturdays before but I don’t think any club has had all nine represented in finals before.

“Technically it’s eight. The 12 and unders don’t have scores during the season but they follow the 14s and because the 14s got in they got to be represented on grand final day.”

Pattison credited the Roosters’ strong focus on junior development for its success. “I think we have great junior coaches here,” she said.

“Jess Haberfield and Moira Thornton coached both the 14s and the 16s and they both have great netball backgrounds themselves.

“Tania Monk did the 12s and actually doesn’t have a netball background but I watched them every week and she did a fantastic job with them.

“Then we’ve got Gill Hermmann in the 17s and it’s about her sixth year with us at under 17 level and they have always done really well. She is a key person for transition from 17s to seniors as well.

“And we have Monique Smith, who has a good coaching background, in the 15s as well.”
