As part of their studies for Science Week, prep-year 2 pupils from Warrnambool West, Woodford and Allansford got together yesterday to taste a variety of foods and look how foods grow.
Beetroot was among the foods that got the thumbs down in the taste test while many of the children were keen to have more fruits in their future.
Science teacher Belinda Watson said healthy eating messages were incorporated into the pupils’ exploration of food and children had to allocate foods into the five different food groups they should consume each day.
Song was also used to get the message across with the pupils learning songs about planting and growing foods.
Ms Watson said the ‘Food for our future’ theme studied at Warrnambool West linked into a wider Science Week theme of ‘Science feeding the world’.
Grade 3-4 pupils from the schools studied how technology was used to produce and deliver foods while grade 5-6 pupils did water testing on the Merri River.
