Learn Local student Michelle McCallum has organised the public meeting for 7.30pm at the centre at 158 Manifold Street.
Ms McCallum, of Camperdown, said more than 300 people had so far signed a petition to the Corangamite District Adult Education Group (CDAEG) board objecting to the closure of the centre that has been operating for 28 years.
She said the centre was a vital community resource for dozens of people who used it to study for educational qualifications. Ms McCallum said she had studied for qualifications in business administration and information technology through Learn Local.
She has lobbied member for Polwarth Terry Mulder, Victorian Premier Denis Napthine and state opposition spokesman for higher education and skills Steve Herbert about the closure.
CDAEG chairwoman Catherine O’Flynn said the board was being forced to close the centre in the next few weeks because it had lost a state government contract to provide the service.
She said the centre had been struggling financially for more than two years and had not met a financial audit earlier this year.
