The Bloods recorded a 14.11 (95) to 13.9 (87) win at Terang Recreation Reserve.
They sit in fourth spot, a game clear of Camperdown and Portland, who both notched wins, with one round to play.
Terang Mortlake plays Camperdown in the final round.
Camperdown sits fifth on percentage above Portland after a gritty 9.20 (74) to 7.9 (51) win over South Warrnambool at Friendly Societies' Park.
Portland, which plays Koroit in the final round, was too good for Cobden at Hanlon Park, winning 14.12 (96) to 6.9 (45).
Hamilton Kangaroos, who are out of finals contention, made it a hat-trick of wins against the league's top three sides at Melville Oval when they accounted for third-placed North Warrnambool Eagles today in a thriller.
The Kangaroos won 10.13 (73) to 10.12 (72), backing up their home victories against ladder leader Warrnambool and second-placed Koroit earlier in the season.
Warrnambool had to work hard for its 12.7 (79) to 6.10 (46) over Port Fairy at Gardens Oval.
Blues spearhead Jason Rowan was restricted to two goals and will need to boot 10 in the final round against Hamilton Kangaroos to notch 100 majors for the season.
