Jarvis says he’s found his feet since moving to East Warrnambool from Hampden league club South Warrnambool in May, so much so he’s already committed for next season.
“I’m really loving it up here. It’s become my home away from home. It was an easy decision to commit again for next year,” he said.
“I was a bit wary when I first moved across. I wasn’t really sure what to think. Once I met with the committee and everyone else, I realised it was the right club for me.
“Everyone was so welcoming and friendly, it feels like I’ve been here for a lot longer than half a season.”
Jarvis played his first match in round seven, when Allansford comprehensively defeated the Bombers by 218 points. He’s played seven games, kicking four goals.
He missed a few games due to other commitments, as well as a knee injury, which he says is fine now.
He juggles training and games around his work as a factory operator at Murray Goulburn, often having to miss training because of night shift.
The midfielder has only played in one winning match with the Bombers, their round 13 victory over Deakin University.
He said the club’s limited success didn’t really have an impact off the field.
“Everyone is still really upbeat and positive,” he said.
“While it would be great to have a few more wins on the board, no one seems to let it get them down. It’s a really positive culture at the club. It’s a great to be a part of.”
The 10th-placed Bombers have a chance to put another win in the column when they take on ninth-placed Timboon Demons at the Reid Oval.
Last time the two met was in round five when the Demons got over the top of the Bombers by a mere six points. Jarvis said he was hopeful of turning the tables this time around.
“Everyone is keen to get the win. We are feeling really good so hopefully we’ll get over the top,” he said.
“Everyone is committed to the club. We all want to get another win. Nothing is left up to an individual on field, everyone plays their part.”
Coach Paul Butters said Jarvis had been a perfect acquisition for the Bombers.
He said Jarvis had been playing on-ball and had brought a lot of strength and determination.
“Cale has slotted in perfectly with everyone. He’s been a great pick-up for us,” he said.
“It’s also great he’s committed for next year. It means we can look forward and start planning for 2015.”
Butters said his side would have to remain focused this weekend in what he expects to be a hard-fought contest.
He said even though the scoreboard didn’t flatter his side last week, he still saw good signs. He also expects the inclusions of Simon Tindal, Jonah Hughson, Ben Gray and Ash Sumner to add some experience and bigger bodies for the clash.
“We had some good passages of play last week, but it was our early conversions that let us down,” he said.
“We will need to be focused when we get the opportunity to score and we will need to be accurate.”
Timboon Demons coach Brendan Hickey said his side didn’t play as well as it would have liked last week but still managed to get the four points.
“If we can play well and keep the intensity high, we will be in with a shot,” he said.
“It’ll be a good contest and challenge. Last time we played there was a kick in it. They think they can win and rightly so.”
