The club’s annual Flaggy 5k run will support the locally-based charity, which works with families of children diagnosed with rare forms of cancer.
Club president John Keats said the annual run had previously supported Peter’s Project, but this year members decided to support another local organisation.
He said the run would start at Flagstaff Hill, head through the Flume, before travelling along the foreshore promenade to The Pavilion.
“Runners will turn around at The Pavilion and then head back to the carnival ground and will then run along Pertobe Road, into the bottom of Flagstaff Hill for the finish,” Keats said.
“It’s one of the club’s most popular runs and it’s great to be able to support the important work of a local charity.”
Leila Rose Foundation spokeswoman Natalie Stevens said the organisation was thrilled the club had decided to support it this year.
She said the run would not only help raise funds for the foundation’s work, but would also help increase its community profile.
Stevens said plenty of the Leila Rose Foundation’s committee members and supporters would take part in the run.
“They will be there running, walking and pushing the pram,” she said.
Stevens said the foundation had recently employed an advocate who will work with the families of children diagnosed with rare cancers. “We work with the family to try and alleviate any financial pressures they may be facing to try and help them understand their child’s illness to make informed decisions,” she said.
Entries for the Flaggy 5k will be accepted on the day from 8am, with the run starting at 9am. Cost is $10 for individuals and $25 for families.
