Maddie Prewett, 19, and Jess Slattery, 17, will take part in a master class with teachers from The Dancers Company, the regional touring arm of The Australian Ballet, during its visit to Warrnambool for a performance at the Lighthouse Theatre on August 4.
Another four of the Fusion Dance Academy’s students will be in the audience for The Dancers Company performance.
Two guest artists from The Australian Ballet will join graduating students from The Australian Ballet School on stage for performance of two much-loved favourites — Paquita and Swan Lake Act III — as well as the newly created work Rimbombo.
The performances will be headlined by Christopher Rodgers-Wilson, one of Australia’s most promising young dancers who last year won the prestigious Telstra Ballet Dancer Award, and senior artist Miwako Kubota, who has toured to Japan, New Zealand, China, London and New York with The Australian Ballet.
The program is a triple bill of ballet classics with Paquita a popular tutu spectacular featuring impressive footwork, and Rimbombo showcasing the athleticism and artistry of The Dancers Company’s young male dancers.
The third classic, Act III from Swan Lake, includes the famous Black Swan pas de deux.
During July and August, the company will give 16 performances and travel more than 10,000 kilometres by bus, car, plane and truck to bring the spectacular classical program to communities in Tasmania, Victoria and Western Australia.
The Dancers Company’s artistic director Danilo Radojevic said Rodgers-Wilson and Kubota were part of a stellar line-up of guest artists to lead the stars of tomorrow from The Australian Ballet School.
This year is a particularly important one for The Dancers Company, marking the 50th anniversary of the Australian Ballet School.
Graduates from the school can join the The Dancers Company to get the opportunity to work as professional ballet dancers.
