In an unusual promotion campaign, tourism operator AAT Kings has fitted out one of its tour coaches with its own lawn bowls green.
Yesterday the bus rolled into Warrnambool and found some eager enthusiasts at the Warrnambool Bowls Club.
Despite the sun shining on the club’s own greens, by 1pm there was a line of curious bowlers waiting to climb aboard for a try.
AAT Kings Victoria manager Julie Pratt said the south-west was the first stop on a 40-day national tour.
“It’s something different and something fun and quirky that our managing director came up with,” Ms Pratt said.
The main requirement is level ground to park on. Bowling while on the road is a definite “no”.
“We’re not allowed to bowl while it’s moving — it could be fun but no,” Ms Pratt said.
“There’s been quite some competitive people come on. I’m learning as we go. By the end I think I’ll be an expert.”
The travellers are also going for a Guinness Book of Records claim for the longest continuing bowling session.
They’ll attempt a 48-hour session in New South Wales.
