Greater Western Sydney officials yesterday confirmed Cameron, a 2013 All-Australian forward, would go under the knife “immediately”.
The decision means the 21-year-old will be unable to add to his 29 goals from 14 matches, although he should be ready for pre-season training in November.
Cameron, who injured the ankle against Brisbane more than a month ago, said the news capped off what had been a frustrating season.
He has also battled a right ankle injury and a perforated eardrum. The latter prevented him from flying to Perth to take on West Coast in May.
“I’ve had a lot of injuries this year. It all started in the pre-season in a practice match,” he said.
“They’ve kept me out for single weeks here and there and I’ve struggled through it a little bit. I’ve kind of called it quits. It’s going to be a lot better for me if I get (surgery) done now rather than try and play out the year and I could slowly but surely injure it more.”?
