Rod McRae’s Wunderkammer, Glenn Morgan’s Shock Treatment, and Peter Clayfield’s Recapturing The Tiger are the three exhibitions that will be featured in the gallery now that Fun4Kids Festival is out of the way.
Shock Treatment — a survey of Morgan’s three-decade career to date — will be officially opened on Friday night from 6.30pm.
It details “the consistent threads in a lifetime of works” and the way “Morgan lures us in with a naive humour but leaves us feeling that we have experienced something rather profound”, according to the WAG’s program.
Wunderkammer is a collection of Sydney artist McRae’s works from the past four years, which use taxidermied animals to examine themes such as conservation, biodiversity, colonisation, our relationship with nature and climate change.
Recapturing The Tiger brings together works collected by Warrnambool artist Peter Clayfield that feature the thylacine, many on display for the first time.
The gallery will also feature new selections from the permanent collection, and its designer of the month display will re-open on August 1 with works by Portland ceramist and textile artist Maureen Watts.
