A SOCIAL ride organised by a group of Victorian motorcyclists ended in tragedy in Glenlyon just after midday on Saturday when a member of the group struck a tree and died.

Kyneton Leading Senior Constable Mark Tepper of Macedon Highway Patrol said the accident occurred at 12.37pm when the male rider, a 59-year-old man from Croydon, was trying to take a bend in Vaughan-Springs Road in Glenlyon, near Glenluce.
The man suffered serious injuries as a result of the impact of the tree and died at the scene, he said.
"It seems the man failed to negotiate a left turn in the road and impacted a tree on the side of the road," he said.
"A rider about 100 metres behind the victim saw brake lights momentarily before bike veered into the scrub, knocking over a tree."
About four of the other riders in the immediate group stopped and performed CPR on the man before calling 000.
Leading Senior Constable Tepper said the man had been part of a group of about 15 riders on a weekend social ride from Melbourne to Sea Lake in the state's north.
"He was one of a group of 15 riders, spread over four or five kilometres at the time," Leading Senior Constable Tepper said.
"It was a social ride organised by a group who get together for a ride every second week or so."
Leading Senior Constable Tepper said the fatality was a "tragic accident".
"They weren't speeding, only 95km/h in an 100km/h zone," he said.
"There's no evidence of bad driving, it's just a tragic accident..
"There's nothing anyone could of done, it's just one of those things."
