Malachy Legg, 28, of Port Fairy, was placed on the four-month suspended jail sentence for breaching an intervention order imposed on him in October last year.
Police prosecutor Sergeant Sandra Skilton said the text had prompted Legg’s ex-partner to tell him not to text her again.
Kathryn Moloney, for Legg, said the text had been sent on New Year’s Eve and had gone to everyone on Legg’s phone contacts.
Ms Moloney said the offence had brought it home to Legg that he needed to be more careful with his phone messages.
She said the breach was of lesser severity and asked that Legg receive a fine.
