The Warrnambool professional fired a final-round 74 this morning to finish at one-under for the tournament, three shots behind the winner, Englishman Justin Rose.
Rose beat American Shawn Stefani at the first playoff hole after both finished at four-under to claim his sixth win on the lucrative tour.
Leishman started his final round two shots off the pace and looked on track to add to his sole tour victory from 2012 when he birdied the first hole.
But five bogies, to go with one more birdie, meant he dropped off the pace as Rose and Stefani held their ground.
The result was Leishman's fourth top-10 finish of 2014 - equal with his 2013 return with 12 tournaments still to play.
He has amassed $1.43 million in prizemoney and is on track for a career-best season. The next US PGA Tour event is the Greenbrier Classic in West Virginia.
