Under 19 World Cup final berth on Colac cricketer’s radar

COLAC cricketer Meyrick Buchanan could play for Australia in the ICC under 19 World Cup final.

Australia recorded a four-wicket win against South Africa in its semi-final in Townsville yesterday.

It will now meet the winner of the India versus New Zealand semi-final in the gold medal match.

Australia won the toss yesterday and sent South Africa in to bat.

The Proteas got off to a shaky start, struggling at 2-14.

They recovered to post 8-191 in their 50 overs.

Australia’s run chase started poorly. Buchanan came and went quickly, out for a duck after coming in at number three.

Australia was in trouble at 2-3 after two overs.

It then found some momentum, with opener Cameron Bancroft making 66 and Kurtis Pattinson contributing 49.

The host nation got home with nine balls to spare.

Buchanan, a Victorian Bushrangers-listed player, has had a tough time with the bat at the World Cup.

He made 16 against England and 21 against Ireland in pool games and didn’t play against Nepal.

The all-rounder also made a duck against Bangladesh in their quarter-final clash.
