With a little help from the CSIRO, students at the Hyland Street school were introduced to science concepts in a fun and exciting way.
Teacher Bill Shorten said science was already an important part of the curriculum but yesterday’s sessions were about taking it out of the traditional classroom setting.
“It was a whole school activity. There were three themes based around forensics, chemistry and matter and ‘toy science’ for the younger kids in the afternoon,” Mr Shorten said.
The CSIRO runs hands-on education programs for students from prep through to year 12 nationally.
They allow students a chance to become the scientists with interactive experiments based on real research.
“The programs were great fun and the kids had an absolute ball,” Mr Shorten said.
“It was about making science fun and entertaining.”
