Warrnambool’s breakwater proved a popular spot to witness the phenomena, during which high tides peaked about 1.28 metres and huge rollers crashed into the wall and offshore reefs in sprays of foam.
Environmental group Green Cross Australia said the king tides provided an insight into what Australia’s coastline may look like in the future due to climate change and the resulting rising sea levels.
The group was encouraging anyone who took photos of the king tides to head to witnesskingtides.org and share their images.
