Big V officials yesterday recognised the on-court general for his efforts during May, a period the Seahawks went 5-1.
Before the debut of US import Sai'Quon Stone, coach Bobby Cunningham said he hoped to see Stone draw opposing teams best defenders and allow Gainey the offensive freedom to average 20 points a game.
During the past five-week stretch, Gainey has averaged 22.6 points and 11.2 rebounds.
But his biggest value has been helping direct Warrnambool's young outfit on the floor, leading the Seahawks to a win-loss record already improved on last year's disappointing season.
