Dowie claimed the 55-59 years age group title at the International Triathlon Union world duathlon championships in Pontevedra, Spain overnight.
The school teacher, who has four age-group medals at world athletics championships to her name, defeated 12 other athletes in the field.
She finished the five-kilometre run, 20-kilometre ride and 2.5-kilometre run in one hour, 13 minutes and 18 seconds.
She led home an Australian one-two, with compatriot Sally Jeffrey finishing in 1.14.03. Great Britain's Heather Lambert was third in 1.16.10.
Dowie's effort was such that she was only 10 seconds behind the winner of the 50-54 years age group, American Geraldine Lupini.
