The Rangers recorded a 4-0 win at Jones Oval on the back of a purple patch nearing half-time of the Ballarat and District Soccer Association division one clash.
Dechlan Picken scored the breakthrough goal with a left-foot shot that took a deflection, Martin van Rooy netted the second from close range after a Castlemaine turnover and Ahmed Ebeid put the visitors further on the back foot nearing half-time.
Martin van Rooy became the game’s only multiple goal-scorer after the main break.
“We started off rushing things and weren’t playing our best but we toned it down and scored three late goals in the last 15 minutes of the half,” Nick van Rooy said.
“In the second half they held their defensive structures and did well and we struggled to find the back of the net.
“We had opportunities galore but couldn’t capitalise. Unfortunately we didn’t finish like we should have.”
Nick said Warr-nambool’s midfield rotations helped it keep Castlemaine at bay.
“We kept it going, however, they had the edge over us fitness-wise but because we had so many through the middle we were able to take advantage,” he said.
Right wing Lee Sharples was the Rangers’ best, along with goal scorers Picken and Martin van Rooy.
Warrnambool, which has six wins, two losses and one draw to its name, plays North United away on Sunday.
Nick said North United was “unpredictable” and had played below its best the past few weeks.
In other games, Warrnambool’s women recorded a mini triumph in their 4-2 loss to Sebastopol Yellow.
Sebastopol Yellow had conceded just one goal in its first seven games.
The Rangers’ under 17s had a 4-1 win against Vic Park and the under 15s suffered a 7-0 loss to Sebastopol.
