MERRIVALE had to fight from behind to overcome Nirranda in an enthalling Warrnambool and District league match at Merrivale today.

The flag favourite Tigers trailed the Blues by seven points at half-time before kicking nine goals to two thereafter to win 17.9 (111) to 11.6 (72).

The win marked the second time in two weeks Karl Dwyer's men have disappointed in the first half before producing an emphatic second half.

Elsewhere, South Rovers made a mockery of an eight-versus-ninth clash against East Warrnambool to win 25.18 (168) to 9.5 (59) at Walter Oval.

The Lions' display was a fitting way to honour the life of Carolyn Claridge - mother of club captain Julian Claridge - who died this week.

Panmure produced the biggest score of the round in thrashing Deakin University at Panmure, 32.19 (211) to 11.7 (73).

Allansford was likewise emphatic in accounting for Timboon Demons 26.20 (176) to 2.8 (20) at Allansford.

And Kolora-Noorat made light work of Russells Creek, kicking nine goals to one in the third term to win 18.16 (124) to 6.9 (45) at Noorat.

In the A grade netball, Merrivale shot one of the highest scores of the season to defeat Nirranda 73-27.

Panmure had to work for its 48-33 win against Deakin University while South Rovers scored their second win of the season, beating East Warrnambool, 50-29.

Kolora-Noorat left Russells Creek two games and percentage of the top five with a 50-29 win, rising into second spot in the process.

But the upset of the day was at Allansford, where the Cats were convincing 50-27 winners against Timboon Demons to move two games clear in fifth.

Old Collegians play Dennington at Davidson Oval tomorrow, with much at stake in the senior football and A grade netball matches.
