May is Red Shield Appeal month and volunteers from the local branch of the global organisation will be out in force, knocking on doors and rattling tins at football games, supermarkets and traffic lights.
Each year the effort raises vital funds for running the Salvation Army's vast network of social services that assist more than a million Australians each year.
Warrnambool Salvation Army captain Darren Aitken said Warrnambool and District league games on May 17 would have volunteers on the gates collecting donations.
The national doorknock weekend would then be held on May 24 and 25.
“We have about 50 people ready to knock on doors, man the traffic lights and collect at supermarkets that weekend,” Captain Aitken said.
“The South Warrnambool football club are getting together some collectors for the weekend which is wonderful.
“We would love to hear from anyone else who would be interested in volunteering over that weekend. People can register their interest online, or just call into the office.”
