The group from Arnhem Land’s Elcho Island gained international stardom in 2007 with their indigenous dance performance to Zorba the Greek.
Lighthouse Theatre acting services manager Merran Fyfe said the much anticipated act would perform tonight and tomorrow.
She told The Standard the theatre had sought out the group with the aim of getting some variety into this year’s winter season.
“It’s really about tapping into the cultural market and bringing it to Warrnambool,” she said. “They play a pivotal role as young leaders for indigenous people and non-indigenous people.”
The group, also known as the Chooky Dancers, have just finished touring with the Melbourne International Comedy Festival.
“It’s also a good insight into indigenous dance.”
The Djuki Mala dancers perform at the Lighthouse Theatre tonight at 7.30pm and tomorrow at 11am.
