The Racing Style: 50 years of Fashions on the Field exhibition is staged by the Australian Racing Museum and features original winning outfits and millinery from five decades of iconic racing fashions.
Opening today, the display will be at Flagstaff Hill until June 20.
About 20 ensembles are on display, each capturing a different aspect of Australian racing style.
Australian Racing Museum chairwoman Barbara Saunders said it was the first time the exhibition had travelled outside Melbourne.
“We are thrilled to bring it to Warrnambool on the eve of the region’s iconic May racing carnival,” she said.
“The exhibition is a fantastic celebration of Australian fashion — from vintage classics to daring designs, neutral palettes to bright colours, and haute couture to thriftily recycled fabrics.
“Fashion has been an integral feature of Victoria’s racing festivities from the very first Melbourne Cup Day in 1861 and visitors to the exhibition can trace the evolution of Australian racewear and view key outfits that helped shape both social and dress standards.”
Entry to the maritime village and exhibition is $16 for adults, $12.50 concession, or for just the exhibition it is $6.50 adults and $5.85 concession.
