Earlier in the year the group put out a call for extra ponies so they could provide classes to older clients and coach Sharyn van Someren said the response was overwhelming.
“People called and offered 10 horses for us to use,” she said.
“It was an amazing response, we couldn’t quite believe it.”
Mrs van Someren said while not all were suitable, three passed the assessment and were already enjoying being involved in classes.
She said some of the other horses would go through training and reassessment.
“We had one pony, Winky, who has been loaned to us for as long as we need him,” she said.
“The new horses mean we can offer a better service for our clients. Before some of the horses were too big for ground mounts so the students had to use the steps, but now we have a suitably sized horse for everyone.”
Ms van Someren said the next thing on her wish list was some form of financial sponsorship so the program could continue to grow.
“That’s the next big wish, finance is always a problem facing not-for-profit groups, so we’d love to hear from any local businesses or people that may be interested in some form of sponsorship,” she said.
