The choir was formed less than two months ago but has already performed at local community events and been booked for more.

Choir co-leader Philip Shaw said the decision to form the group was an emotional response to social justice and environmental issues.

The choir was an opportunity for people to express what they believed without browbeating others, Mr Shaw said.

Its repertoire covered a wide range of musical genres from early protest songs to contemporary pieces that had direct relevance to current events.

About 25 people made up the group and people from all backgrounds were welcome to join, Mr Shaw said.

The choir has two leaders with Geoff Barker working alongside Mr Shaw.

It has so far performed at last month’s ‘March in March’ protest in Warrnambool and at a social event earlier this month for Sri Lankan asylum seekers who were hosted by Warrnambool district families.

It will also perform in June at a fund-raiser for chaplains at local schools and at a climate action talk by environmental consultant Rob Gell.

The choir rehearses from 5.30pm on Tuesdays at the Hammond Centre at the Christ Church Anglican church in Henna Street.
