Michael Couzens, 45, of Timor Street, pleaded guilty in Warrnambool Magistrates Court last week.
Police alleged that at 4.30pm on September 24 last year Couzens and a co-accused were at the Warrnambool train station and later Couzens took a mountain bike from in front of the IGA supermarket.
He told a staff member he had bought the bike from a friend for $30 but when the employee threatened to ring police, Couzens returned the bike.
At 11pm that night, he was released from the Warrnambool police station with property that accidentally contained the co-accused’s wallet and keys. The wallet held $120.
When contacted by police, Couzens said he had dumped it in a bin because he was upset the co-accused had “ratted him out”. The wallet and keys were found and there was no cash in the wallet. Couzens was convicted and fined $750.
