Adding to the 20 already under construction and three already operational, construction work started on new NBN towers to service the Port Campbell, Timboon, Portland and Terang areas.
Member for Wannon Dan Tehan said the government was focusing on delivering fixed wireless services throughout rural and regional areas.
“It is designed to provide access to internet speeds and bandwidth that people in the cities already have,” Mr Tehan said.
“We are committed to ending the digital divide between country and city dwellers by prioritising the roll-out of fixed wireless in rural and regional areas.
“This will provide fast broadband services to the communities who need it most.
“The NBN will make a tremendous difference to how our rural and regional businesses operate and make it easier for people to access online services, which will make life a lot easier for those living in rural and remote areas.
“I am very pleased with the fast rate of the roll-out of fixed wireless in Wannon. Since the Coalition government was elected we have commenced construction of 18 towers locally.”
On average, it is estimated to take about a year from the start of construction until residents and business owners can order NBN retail services from telephone or internet service providers.
More information will be provided to residents about how to connect as construction nears completion in each area.
