Features of the $9.5 million section are 55 new beds, café, hairdressing salon, communal areas, a central dining space, resident kitchen, chapel and areas for staff.
Bishop of Ballarat Paul Bird will bless the facility on April 30 at 11.30am.
Mercy Health chief executive officer adjunct Professor Stephen Cornelissen said it was pleasing to provide more aged-care services to people in the Warrnambool community.
“Mercy Health is extremely proud of its reputation as a quality provider of aged-care services,” Professor Cornelissen said.
“This development and the services provided allow us to further give life to our vision of serving those in need.”
The resident’s rooms are generously sized and incorporate ceiling hoists, vinyl flooring, large en suites, nurse call facilities and bright feature walls.
Fairbrother Constructions was engaged for the project and south-west Victoria manager Billy Edis said major additions were the kerbed promenade at the front of the building and the chapel.
“It’s north-facing with all glass and feature tiles throughout,” he said. “The chapel dining room area is the largest room in the building and has laser-cut screens that form the doors to the altar.”
The $10.2 million first stage was completed in January 2010 and included 65 beds, a commercial kitchen and laundry.
