The charitable service’s executive officer Dedy Friebe said a donation from the Warrnambool Lattes Cycling Group, along with support from Western District Employment Access (WDEA), Moyne Shire, Norton Ford and the philanthropic foundations of Ray and Joyce Uebergang, Ern Hartley and Gwen and Edna Jones had funded the transit van’s purchase.
Mr Friebe said Warrnambool Foodshare had been seeking a van for about a year to replace one on loan from the Foodbank organisation.
The new van can hold up to two pallets and will allow Warrnambool Food Share to pick up large food donations from throughout Victoria as well as Warrnambool supermarkets.
“It’s our first fixed asset and allows us to look forward to the future,” Mr Friebe said.
“We are very excited about it.”
Warrnambool Food Share provides food relief to community service agencies in Warrrnambool such as the Salvation Army and St Vincent De Paul, which give the food to the needy.
It also provides food for breakfast programs at local schools and for free meal programs run by community organisations.
It receives food donations from eight local supermarkets and other sources.
