For the next two weeks the shelter will waive adoption fees for all adult cats waiting for their second chance at happiness.

Acting shelter supervisor Janita McLeod said there was no shortage of choice.

“We’ve got lots,” she said.

“There are over 18 available for adoption and there are 20 more in quarantine which can also be adopted.” 

Adult cats are ordinarily overlooked for kittens, however, they are equally great as companions.

They are often less destructive, more independent, lower maintenance and have formed personalities.

“Their personality traits are already set in and they are already raised,” Mrs McLeod said.

“The provide continuous love and companionship as much as a kitten.”

Mrs McLeod said all of the cats are microchipped, desexed, health checked and behaviour tested.

“There are females and males in all different colours and breeds,” she said. 

“We are inundated with adorable cats.” 

Pammy, a one-year-old cat, has been at the shelter for more than 100 days. 

“She came in as a stray and is a dilute tortoiseshell. She is ready to get out of here.” 

Mrs McLeod said adult cats can be suitable for children and the shelter will find the right cat for the right home.

“We will match up the cats with suitable homes as much as we can,” she said.
