Detective Sergeant Steve Brown, of the Portland police crime investigation unit, said Portland officers executed a drug warrant at a Merino property on Tuesday.
He said police found a quantity of cannabis plants, dried cannabis and hydroponics equipment.
A 41-year-old man was arrested, interviewed and charged with trafficking, cultivating, possessing and using cannabis.
He will appear in the Portland Magistrates Court on May 20.
Detective Sergeant Brown said a tip-off from a member of the public led to the raid.
"Information from the public is vital to police effectively enforcing the law and led to this warrant being executed, items being found and charges laid," he said.
