It is believed there was an altercation at a Princes Highway truck stop between Heywood and Dartmoor in which the victim was struck to the head with an iron bar.
Sergeant Martin Flannery, of Portland, said police were called to a service station at Heywood about 10.30pm Tuesday where a truckie reported he had been assaulted.
“He said he had pulled over at a truck stop, then another driver got out and there was an altercation and he was assaulted with an iron bar,” Sergeant Flannery said.
“We were given a description of the alleged offender as a male in his 40s wearing a white singlet and glasses.
“He was driving a white Volvo twin-trailer rig carrying timber travelling east.
“After the report police patrolled the Heywood-Woolsthorpe-Ettrick Road but did not see the vehicle.
“We are appealing for information from the public to assist our investigations.”
