Donations by the public to the Peter’s Project collection cans, distributed by the club throughout the south-west, enabled it to this week hand over $16,300 to the project.
This week’s donation comes on top of the $21,500 received through the collection cans that the club handed over some time ago, bringing the total amount raised so far to more than $37,500.
The Kiwanis have about 200 Peter’s Project collection cans at locations throughout the south-west and regularly collect money from them.
The Kiwanis have run the collection cans for the past three-and-half-years and will continue to do so until Peter’s Project reaches its target of $5 million — the community’s contribution to a radiotherapy centre to be built in Warrnambool to treat cancer patients.
Having a local radiotherapy centre will save many cancer patients from having to travel long distances for treatment.
